The Goa Province of the Society of Jesus bears the unique distinction of being among the first provinces established by St. Ignatius of Loyola. St. Francis Xavier was its first provincial. Nevertheless, after the worldwide suppression and subsequent restoration of the Society, it has been just a few decades that the Goa Province has come into being.
The Goa Province today comprises of the state of Goa, the Belgaum district of Karnataka and the Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and South Kolhapur districts of Maharashtra. There are 140 Jesuits (77 Priests, 53 Scholastics, 10 Brothers) who work in the Goa Province. The Jesuits of the Goa Province actively engage themselves in the fields of education, media, parishes, research, retreat, social action and youth.
