Ignatian Meditation

SAVIO RODRIGUES SJ

Saint Ignatius of Loyola suggests that the person choose a posture that is most conducive to prayer.

Close your eyes or gaze at a fixed spot, suppressing all movements.

When in this position, go over the passage or prayer you have chosen, reflecting on one or two words at a time, or over a sentence. Dwell on the provoking thought or pleasing words, which suggest comparisons, feelings, consolations, etc.

Meditate for a substantial period of time, halting your mind on those words or passages that are most inspiring, without moving over to the next word, if you find you are in prayer with this word or passage.
